What flowing the Tao means - and why qi of the day is part of it

Flowing with the Tao seems a very dreamy concept - something that requires constant meditation and almost otherworldliness. It is true that our modern surroundings seem to just run over this more natural timing and evolution, making teachings such as taoism seem archaic and distant.

And yet, this flow brought about by the Tao is by definition the world we live in. Whether we choose to follow it or not. In following the qi of the day, we can understand how things flow and change from one state to the next until we don't see the states anymore. We just feel the flow. When this happens, we become spontaneous and in harmony with our world. Things come and go with the flow of life and we become life itself.

In the beginning it takes some work to shift our focus from the modern ideas of success and put ourselves in a more receptive state of mind where we begin to understand success and failure are dependent on each other. This dichotomy is the polarity of our world. It is a natural law of our reality and literally defines our existence on a fundamental level.

In accepting this and watching the movement - the flow between yin and yang is how we transcend it. If we adhere to the polarity and attempt to fight against it, we are caught. But if we accept and see that it is not absolute but a necessary aspect to change and evolution - we see the multitude instead of just the polarity.

This is the beginning of understanding the Tao.
